Southlake Hosts North Park Grand Opening (Photo Gallery)

The City of Southlake hosted the North Park Grand Opening Thursday, Sept. 20 at 6 p.m. The new park features multipurpose sports fields, a playground, concession and restroom facilities, a pavilion, trails and open play space.

“Excitement doesn’t even begin to describe how I feel about this project,” said Southlake Mayor John Terrell. “This is the culmination of many years of the city working together to bring a great park to the kids and families of Southlake.”

Pastor Clayton Reed began the ceremony with an invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance.

After the pledge, Mayor Terrell made opening comments about the work that went into the park. Terrell told the young athletes present he hoped they enjoy the park and their children enjoy the park long after they are gone.

City Manager Shana K. Yelverton, Southlake Parks Development Corporation President Carolyn Morris, Director of Community Services Chris Tribble and Parks Board Chairman John Slocum also spoke at the ceremony.

“This park is the perfect location for lacrosse and flag football, and it will be for years to come,” said Slocum. “We’ve got 750 children that are anxious to play on it.”

After the ribbon cutting ceremony, Peyton Lain sang “The Star-Spangled Banner,” and Mayor Terrell, Morris and Slocum participated in ceremonial coin tosses.
