The first day of school at Westlake Academy is almost here and our teachers are gearing up for an exciting year!  My name is Dr. Andra Barton and I am the Middle Years Programme Principal.  I have been so thrilled to meet our new Middle Years Programme teachers this week at orientation.  They are truly exceptional individuals and will be such an asset to Westlake Academy.  I even found time this week to have a little fun by serving the new teachers lunch on their first day.  I truly believe that “great teachers and principals can help to close persistent achievement gaps, improve student attitudes about school, and build habits of mind that can change a student."  At Westlake Academy, we believe in the following:

Vision: Westlake Academy inspires college bound students to achieve their highest individual potential in a nurturing environment that fosters the traits found in the IB Learner Profile.

~Inquirers, Knowledgeable, Thinkers, Communicators, Principled, Open-minded, Caring, Risk-takers, Balanced, and Reflective~

Mission: Westlake Academy is an IB World School whose mission is to provide students with an internationally minded education of the highest quality so they are well-balanced and respectful life-long learners.

Value Statements: Maximizing Personal Development, Academic Excellence, Respect for Self and Others, Personal Responsibility, Compassion and Understanding

We look forward to meeting all of the new Westlake Academy families this year, school begins on Thursday, August 17th at 7:55am.  Go Blacksmiths!

Dr. Andra Barton has been a member of the educational community for over 20 years. Serving as a principal for the past 17 years she credits the middle years program as one of her favorites. Having completed International Baccalaureate training prior to coming to Westlake Academy, she enjoys the MYP and the inquiry based approach it provides for middle- aged students. Dr. Barton received her doctorate degree in Education at Baylor University, Masters of Education at Texas Christian University and Bachelors of Science at Texas Tech University. She has studied abroad in China and Thailand working with the Educational Departments and participated in an internship with the Department of Education in Washington D.C. with an emphasis on International Affairs. She believes these experiences and her education were instrumental in preparing her for the position as MYP Principal at Westlake Academy. Andra enjoys traveling, serving and educating the homeless population and spending time with her two daughters and husband. - Contact Andra at
